The Divemaster course is your first step into the professional diving world. This comprehensive training program transforms you from a skilled recreational diver into a diving leader capable of supervising dive activities and assisting with diver training. The course requires dedication and commitment, but the rewards of becoming a diving professional are immeasurable.
Time Requirements
The Divemaster course typically takes between 6-8 weeks when conducted full-time, or 3-6 months when done part-time. Your personal schedule can be tailored to meet your needs, but you should expect to commit:
- Approximately 50-60 hours of academic study and knowledge development
- 20-30 hours of confined water training and skill development
- 30-40 hours of open water training exercises
- 15-20 hours of internship activities assisting with courses
- Additional time for self-study and practice
Course Requirements
Prerequisites and Certifications
Before Starting the Course
- Be at least 18 years old
- PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification (or qualifying certification)
- PADI Rescue Diver certification (or qualifying certification)
- Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care certification (or qualifying training) within the past 24 months
- Have at least 40 logged dives
- Medical clearance for diving within the last 12 months
For Certification
- Complete all knowledge development segments and assessments
- Pass the Divemaster Final Exam
- Complete water skills exercises and assessments
- Complete practical application skills
- Complete all workshop requirements
- Have at least 60 logged dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving, and underwater navigation
- Be certified in Emergency First Response (or qualifying training) within 24 months
